Festival of Flourishing Regions, February 2025

Prof Katy Shaw, Director of the AHRC Creative Communities programme, recently gave a talk to policymakers, regional planners, economic development experts, academics, and business and community leaders at the Festival of Flourishing Regions.

Prof Shaw discussed ‘why maximum devolution will deliver city and regional potential’, reflecting on the recent government white paper on devolution and potential for delivering deep devolution of powers to places. The talk considered how cities and combined authorities can maximise these opportunities and deliver for people, their areas, and the country.

Conference speakers included:

  • Jennifer Williams, Financial Times (chair)
  • Katy Shaw, Northumbria University
  • Nick Pearce, IPR, University of Bath, former Director of No 10 Policy Unit
  • John Denham, University of Southampton
  • Marvin Rees, former mayor of Bristol

A summary of the event and its findings has been published by the organisers online. You can find more information about the event online. More information about the AHRC Creative Communities programme is available across our website.
