Project Summary:

Creative Futures in Regeneration is a dynamic research project focused on exploring how cultural investment can shape a more inclusive and creative Digbeth in Birmingham. With the BBC moving into the area and significant growth anticipated, the project asks how local communities, artists, and creative workers can share in this transformation.

Led by the University of Birmingham in close collaboration with the BBC, Culture Central, the West Midlands Combined Authority, and Birmingham City Council, the project brings together diverse voices to co-create ideas for sustainable and equitable regeneration. Through interviews, workshops, creative mapping, and storytelling, it examines how cultural infrastructure influences people’s lives, aspirations, and access to opportunity.

This initiative is part of the AHRC Creative Communities programme. It aims to provide new insights for policy, planning, and practice while supporting the creative sector to thrive in ways that benefit everyone who lives and works in Digbeth.
