The North East Mayoral Strategic Authority is an Established Mayoral Strategic Authority.
In December 2023 a devolution deal for the North East was announced. The North East Combined Authority formed in May 2024, and became the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority in May 2026.
The inaugural mayor, Kim McGuinness was elected for a four-year term in 2024. She works with the leaders of the seven Local Authority councils on devolved decision-making and funding.
