During the session ‘Championing Underrepresented Voices: A Writing Chance’, Claire Malcolm (CEO, New Writing North), Mayo Agard-Olubo (Writer), Ellen Peirson Hagger (Assistant Culture Editor, New Statesman) and our own Director of Creative Communities Prof Katy Shaw (Northumbria University) reflected on the recent report on the A Writing Chance project. During this panel discussion, the expert speakers discussed contemporary challenges in publishing, how to create opportunities for all writers and what best practice looks like.

A Writing Chance was founded by the actor and activist Michael Sheen and New Writing North to create a national platform for new writers from working class and other underrepresented backgrounds.

The London Book Fair is the global marketplace for rights negotiation and the sale and distribution of content across print, audio, TV, film and digital channels. Their in-person event typically welcomes more than 25,000 publishing professionals to London for the week of the fair to learn, network, and kick off the year in publishing.
