In May 2026, Prof Katy Shaw shared learning and best practice from the AHRC / UKRI Creative Communities programme with visitors from the UKRI Board and their Chief Executive Professor Sir Ian Chapman.
The Creative Communities programme is investing in community-led cultural innovation across all four nations of the UK, delivering on UKRI Missions to advance knowledge, improve lives and drive growth for the whole nation.
The AHRC Creative Communities programme is hosted by Northumbria University, who also presented a vibrant collection of innovative R&D investments.
This visit was part of a wider tour of the North East’s five universities, organised by Universities for North East England (UNEE). The UKRI Board saw how public investment in research is translating into real-world impact, regional progress and national innovation in the north east.
