Wales Policy Sprint

The AHRC Creative Communities Wales Policy Sprint was hosted with the Wales Innovation Network (WIN) in December 2024. WIN is a collaborative initiative which harnesses the diversity of research and innovation in Wales to create economic and societal impact for this and future generations. Their focus on Welsh research themes of net zero and decarbonisation, creative industries and media, and the Wales Arts and Humanities Alliance made socialising the Policy Provocation Paper on Environment particularly relevant to their broad expertise.

The Sprint event shared co-created policy solution suggestions on the environment and net zero from the AHRC Creative Communities Wales Policy Lab. These were socialised with attendees from universities across Wales, as well as with broader cross-sector stakeholders including researchers, policy makers, funders, third and private sector organisations and community organisations.

The Sprint considered specific Welsh policy contexts, including opportunities created by the Future Generations Act, the Welsh language as an environmental resource, the ability of a small nation to move quickly and the need for multi-level local, devolved and national policy connections.

The policy recommendations from the upcoming paper will enable arts and culture to create a stronger, fairer economy and society through delivering cross-sector into missions-driven targets.
