In the York and North Yorkshire Devolution Deal, the Combined Authority commits to working with Arts Council England and local partners to support an increase in cultural opportunity in the Selby District Area, a ‘Levelling Up for Culture’ place. Partners will build on the work of the York and North Yorkshire Heritage and Culture Strategy Group in taking forward the recommendations of the Celebrating our Distinctive Heritage report, including investment spending towards agreed priorities on High Street Heritage Action Zone programme to coastal and market towns. Partners also will support York’s Culture Strategy. Approach to culture will complement the region’s ambitions around place-making, attracting and retaining young people and supporting the growth of the visitor economy.
The Government is granting borrowing powers for newly established Mayoral Combined (County) Authorities and will legislate to provide York and North Yorkshire with borrowing powers across the full range of their functions.
